Matheson joining Thunder as Alternate Governor

by Gary Ahuja

A prominent name in local sports is joining the Langley Thunder organization.

Dana Matheson – a long-time Township of Langley resident – will serve as an Alternate Governor for the Senior A Thunder team, which plays in the Western Lacrosse Association.

“Dana’s deep passion for sports and commitment to the Langley community make him a fantastic addition to our team. With his extensive background in both sports and business, he is sure to bring valuable insight and energy to the organization,” said Thunder Vice-President Rob Buchan.

Matheson has a long-standing connection to sports, having played football at the university level. In 2002, he was part of the Saint Mary’s Huskies football team that captured the Vanier Cup as Canadian university champions. After his playing career, Matheson returned to the Township, immersing himself in the business world. His entrepreneurial success was recognized in 2007 with the George Preston Businessperson of the Year Award, and in 2018, he was named to Business in Vancouver’s Top 40 Under 40 Entrepreneur’s list.

Beyond business, Matheson continues to make an impact in the sporting community. He is the co-owner of both the BC Hockey League’s Langley Rivermen and the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s Westshore Wolves. Additionally, since 2015, Matheson has served as President of the Langley Rams of the BC Football Conference. Under his leadership, the junior football team has won three Cullen Cups as league champions and one Canadian Bowl as national champions.

Matheson’s primary focus will on sponsorship and business development.

“I'm thrilled to join the Langley Thunder lacrosse organization in this new role of Sponsorship and Business Development. As someone who has spent much of my life in the world of junior sports and entrepreneurship, I'm excited to bring my passion for community, business, and athletics to the organization,” Matheson said.

“As a resident of the Township of Langley, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible support this town has for its sports teams, and I can’t wait to help drive the Thunder’s success both on and off the turf. Together, we’ll build something special for the fans, the players, and the entire Township of Langley."
