Draft Recap: New and familiar faces part of Thunder draft haul

Jaiden Terry (left) and Chase Schiavon were the Langley Thunder's Territorial Protection picks in the Western Lacrosse Association Draft. They are among the seven new players joining the organization.

After locking in a pair of key defenders with the Territorial Protection picks, the Langley Thunder bolstered their offence with their first two selections in the Western Lacrosse Association Graduating Junior Draft.

Langley used their first-round pick (fifth overall) on Hudson (Finn) Halladay and then their second-round pick on Hunter Meyer. Both are right-handed offensive players who played for the Port Coquitlam Saints junior program.

Each player scored 17 goals during the 2024 BC Junior A Lacrosse League regular season with Meyer adding 26 assists while Halladay set up 14 goals. Halladay then added seven goals and 15 points and Meyer finished with three goals and eight points in the playoffs as they helped the Saints advance to their first-ever Minto Cup championships.

Prior to the draft, the Thunder opted to use both of their Territorial Protection picks, choosing Jaiden Terry and Chase Schiavon. Terry capped off his Junior career by winning the Keith McEachren Trophy as the league’s Most Sportsmanlike Player. It was the second straight season he received the honour.

Both play on the defensive side of the floor with Terry a left-hander while Schiavon is on the right-side.

Langley rounded out their draft by selecting Andrew Thompson (Burnaby Junior A) in the third round, Matthew Burt (Delta Junior A) and Rhys Marshall (Burnaby Junior A) in the fourth round and Luke Grove (Delta Junior A) in the fifth round. Burt and Marshall both play offence on the left-side while Thomson and Grove are lefty D-players.
